Fort Steuben Chapter NSDAR

Chartered in 1921

The Fort Steuben Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) was organized by its first Regent, Mary Donaldson Sinclair at the request of  State Regent Mrs. William McGee.

The chapter was originally called the Steubenville Chapter NSDAR but the name was changed in 2003 to the Fort Steuben Chapter NSDAR.

Most of our members who have relocated to other parts of the United States have retained their Fort Steuben Chapter NSDAR membership.

Our chapter meetings are held monthly, September through May. The meetings are open to everyone interested in joining DAR and learning more about our organization.

The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization that promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

Any woman is eligible for membership who is at least 18 years of age and can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.

DAR members are encouraged to perform and record their volunteer service hours toward meeting a goal of 19 million hours of community service.  Each October a day is designated for the NSDAR National Day of Service. During this day participating members strive to make an impact in their local communities.
The DAR set the Guinness World Book of Records in 2016 for patriotism when members collected 100,904 letters to military personnel in one month.

Fort Steuben Chapter NSDAR members, like their national counterparts, are very interested in historic preservation.

Our chapter is passionate about supporting our future generations.  We regularly visit schools in our community to promote NSDAR programs.  Each year we select one student to receive a scholarship from our chapter and we donate to the NSDAR schools.

Our chapter is full of patriotism. One of our favorite projects is Wreaths Across America where we purchase wreaths and place them on veterans graves while saying the veteran's name out loud.

Our members are proud of their patriots who sacrificed and aided in the cause of American independence.  Among them is a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a patriot who was awarded the Military Badge of Merit by George Washington.
